Used as an organic synthesis intermediate, it is employed in the pharmaceutical industry to produce the sulfonamide drug sulfamethoxazole. 4,6-Dihydroxypyrimidine also serves as an intermediate for vitamin B4, antineoplastic agents, and adjuvant drugs.
